Summer Institute June 17 – 27, 2021
Caroga Lake, NY
For Violinists, Violists, and Cellists
Ten inspiring days in the beautiful Adirondacks applying somatic approach to musical performance through private lessons, group lessons, master classes and workshops dedicated to expanding artistic freedom and the art of teaching.
The institute offers participants the opportunity to explore their unique musical instrument, which is their body, and to improve their instrumental skills through somatic education with musicians and Feldenkrais Practitioners Uri and Hagit Vardi. The Vardis are certified Feldenkrais Practitioners, and specialize in applying the method to performing artists through presentations and workshops around the world.
The Feldenkrais Method is a modality used to identify habitual patterns, and to improve body awareness. This method has proven to be highly effective in alleviating pain, anxiety and movement difficulties as well as in improving the ability of communicating musical intention. The method involves the use of movement, touch and imagery as tools for learning new ways of functioning. Your Body Is Your Strad is the only Feldenkrais summer program dedicated to musicians.
All college aged and professional violinists, violists, and cellists who are interested in improving their instrumental and teaching skills are invited to apply to the Your Body Is Your Strad Institute. Approximately 8-12 musicians for each instrument will be selected to participate.
