Cellist, scholar, arts administrator, producer, opera librettist and composer, videographer, and arts consultant are among the ways that I have engaged in the worlds of music and education. My degrees are from Yale (performance-MMA and scholar-PhD). My faculty appointments have been at Yale (Dean of Academic Affairs) and Amherst College (Professor emerita and department chair). I was a member of the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, the New Haven Symphony, the Aspen Festival Orchestra, and have participated in various Hollywood film orchestras. I have created and produced staged song cycles—Schubert Winterreise, and a Musorgsky compilation of songs and piano music, The Death of Victor Hartman. I wrote the libretto, electronic music, and co-created the video for an original video opera My Architect. A Chamber Opera based on the life and work of architect Louis Kahn that premiered in New York and Milan. I have lectured and served as an education consultant and dramaturg at the Glimmerglass Opera Festival. I have also lectured and written about Beethoven autographs and sketches, Janacek’s opera Jenufa, Berg’s opera Lulu, and Schubert’s Cello Quintet in conjunction with a Schubert project, culminating in three performances and a recording by the Brentano Quartet and cellist Michael Kannen.
