DESCRIPTION:Friday\, July 3rd\, 20267:00 pmSherman’s Park \n\n\n\nTickets:$20 General Admission$40 PavilionA Celebration of America’s 250th with David Alan Miller\, conductor\, Kevin Cole\, piano\, Sylvia McNair\, voice\, and Caroga Arts Ensemble. \n\n\n\nFree general admission for students 17 and under!Caroga Arts offers FREE admission to concert goers 17 and under for all Caroga Arts presented concerts at Sherman’s. \n\n\n\n \n \n Get Tickets!\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nAmerican Mosaic weaves together a vibrant portrait of the nation’s musical identity\, from the patriotic ode towards great anthems and medleys to the wide-open energy of Rodeo to the fresh voice of Viet Cuong. Soprano Sylvia McNair and pianist Kevin Cole bring timeless songs by George Gershwin to life\, culminating in the iconic Rhapsody in Blue. Under the baton of David Alan Miller with the Caroga Arts Ensemble\, this program celebrates the rich diversity and spirit of American music. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPianist Kevin Cole is widely regarded as the foremost interpreter of George Gershwin’s compositions. Cole’s performances have garnered accolades from America’s most prominent music critics and multiple return engagements with orchestras and concert series across the country. He is the first pianist to play all four of Gershwin’s works for piano and orchestra in one concert (Albany Symphony). Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune declared: “When Cole sits down at the piano\, you would swear Gershwin himself was at work…Cole stands as the best Gershwin pianist in America today.” From the Hollywood Bowl to Royal Albert Hall\, Cole’s jazz-classical artistry has been presented and lauded at the highest levels. \n\n\n\n\n\nCole’s versatility is seemingly endless. He has collaborated with Marvin Hamlisch\, opened for Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band\, shared a concert evening with Broadway musical legend Barbara Cook\, toured with Grammy-winning soprano Sylvia McNair\, performed at the invitation of the prestigious Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival\, and served as Artistic Director for Ravinia Festival’s Steans Institute Musical Theatre Initiative. His collaborations with other creatives led to the 1996 Gramophone Album of the Year with soprano Dawn Upshaw (Oh\, Kay! on Elektra/Nonesuch) and the smash hit revival of Babes in Arms with Broadway choreographer Randy Skinner (42nd Street) for Goodspeed Opera House.Cole enjoys a history of personal praise from legends Irving Berlin\, Harold Arlen\, E. Y. Harburg\, Hugh Martin\, Burton Lane\, and Stephen Sondheim as well as members of both the Jerome Kern and George/Ira Gershwin families. Edward Jablonski\, author of the Encyclopedia of American Music and renowned Gershwin scholar said\, “Kevin is the best Gershwin pianist since Gershwin himself – no one can touch him.”Cole’s most recent recording is Gershwin’s Concerto in F with the National Orchestra Institute Philharmonic under the baton of David Alan Miller for Naxos (2020) and available on all streaming platforms. A first recording of newly restored editions of Rhapsody in Blue\, Second Rhapsody\, and Cuban Overture with the National Orchestra Institute Philharmonic was recorded in June 2023 and will release in early 2024 (Naxos).Cole is a Steinway Artist and a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy. His many engagements include the Los Angeles Philharmonic\, San Francisco Symphony\, Minnesota Orchestra\, Boston Philharmonic\, Nashville Symphony\, Albany Symphony\, Cincinnati Pops\, Indianapolis Symphony\, Pittsburgh Symphony\, Edmonton Symphony (Canada)\, Philharmonia Orchestra (UK)\, BBC Concert Orchestra (UK)\, Grant Park Symphony\, Chicago Symphony Orchestra\, Utah Symphony and more. Among the conductors he has performed with are Stuart Chafetz\, Robert Franz\, Giancarlo Guerrero\, Keitaro Harada\, Lawrence Loh\, David Alan Miller\, Robert Moody\, Edwin Outwater\, John Morris Russell and Benjamin Zander.A brilliant music director and arranger\, Cole has crafted dazzling orchestral and concert programs that showcase the genius of American composers Marvin Hamlisch\, Cole Porter\, and George Gershwin. Kevin Cole’s extensive repertoire and personal experience with legendary American songbook composers and performers make it possible for him to deliver signature programs for orchestras and concert series with personal anecdotes and original arrangements like no other American pianist performing today.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo-time GRAMMY Award winner and regional Emmy Award winner\, Sylvia McNair lays claim to a stellar career in the musical realms of opera\, oratorio\, art song\, jazz\, cabaret\, and musical theater. She is recognized as one of the most sought-after American artists of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Her journey has taken her from the Metropolitan Opera to the Salzburg Festival\, from the New York Philharmonic to the Rainbow Room\, from the Ravinia Festival to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir\, from the pages of The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal to the London Times and the cover of Cabaret Scenes. Having appeared as a soloist multiple times\, sometimes more than once per season\, with nearly every major opera company and symphony orchestra in the world\, this songbird eventually flew the classical coop and successfully retraced her star route with Gershwin\, Porter\, Hamlisch\, Bernstein\, and Sondheim.  \n\n\n\n\n\nSylvia has recorded for every major classical record label\, garnering two GRAMMY awards and six GRAMMY nominations. Her recording\, ROMANCE\, a disc of Latin American jazz standards was released to a rave review from Fanfare Magazine: “… here the record is\, and it’s fabulous. In fact\, it’s the biggest surprise of its kind I’ve encountered since Diana Ross’s live album of Billie Holiday standards.” A review of her performance with Marvin Hamlisch and the Milwaukee Symphony exclaimed: “…she is that rare opera type who really gets the popular song. She reined in the vibrato and played to the microphone perfectly. Her matchless enunciation not only delivered the words and their sentiments\, but also helped to etch the rhythms. Her wonderfully pure Summertime\, purged of all diva carrying-on\, is among the best I’ve ever heard.” (Third Coast Digest) After her opening at the famed Oak Room of the Algonquin\, critic Rex Reed swooned\, “I could get used to this kind of ecstasy.”Outside of music\, Sylvia says she is doing the most important work of her life teaching ENL (formerly known as ESL) and adult literacy through a program called VITAL\, Volunteers In Tutoring Adult Learners. She volunteers with the Mobile Food Pantry\, part of the Area 10 Agency on Aging’s outreach in her community. And she works for the Refugee Support Network in Bloomington\, Indiana\, where she encounters some of the bravest people she’s ever met and considers it an honor to work alongside them. A proud Buckeye from Mansfield\, Ohio\, Sylvia earned a master’s degree with distinction from the Indiana University School of Music\, she received honorary doctorates from Westminster College (1997) and Indiana University (1998)\, the Ohio Governor’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Arts and Entertainment (1999)\, the Indiana Governor’s Arts Award (2011). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo-time Grammy Award winning conductor David Alan Miller has established a reputation as one of the leading American conductors of his generation. As music director of the Albany Symphony since 1992\, Mr. Miller has proven himself a creative and compelling orchestra builder. Through exploration of unusual repertoire\, educational programming\, community outreach\, and recording initiatives\, he has reaffirmed the Albany Symphony’s reputation as the nation’s leading champion of American symphonic music and one of its most innovative orchestras. \n\n\n\n\n\nHe and the orchestra have twice appeared at “Spring For Music\,” an annual festival of America’s most creative orchestras at New York City’s Carnegie Hall\, and at the SHIFT Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington\, D.C. Other accolades include Columbia University’s 2003 Ditson Conductor’s Award\, the oldest award honoring conductors for their commitment to American music\, the 2001 ASCAP Morton Gould Award for Innovative Programming\, and\, in 1999\, ASCAP’s first-ever Leonard Bernstein Award for Outstanding Educational Programming. Frequently in demand as a guest conductor\, Mr. Miller has worked with most of America’s major orchestras\, including the orchestras of Baltimore\, Chicago\, Cleveland\, Detroit\, Houston\, Indianapolis\, Los Angeles\, New York\, Philadelphia\, Pittsburgh\, and San Francisco\, as well as the New World Symphony\, the Boston Pops\, and the New York City Ballet. In addition\, he has appeared frequently throughout Europe\, the UK\, Australia\, and the Far East as guest conductor.  Since 2019\, Mr. Miller has served as Artistic Advisor to the Little Orchestra Society in New York City\, and\, from 2006 to 2012\, served as Artistic Director of “New Paths in Music\,” a festival of new music from around the world\, also in New York City. Mr. Miller received his most recent Grammy Award in 2021 for his recording of Christopher Theofanidis’ Viola Concerto\, with Richard O’Neill and the Albany Symphony\, and his first Grammy in 2014 for his Naxos recording of John Corigliano’s “Conjurer\,” with the Albany Symphony and Dame Evelyn Glennie. His extensive discography also includes recordings of the works of Todd Levin with the London Symphony Orchestra for Deutsche Grammophon\, as well as music by Michael Daugherty\, Kamran Ince\, Michael Torke (London/Decca)\, Luis Tinoco\, and Christopher Rouse (Naxos). His recordings with the Albany Symphony include discs devoted to the music of John Harbison\, Roy Harris\, Morton Gould\, Don Gillis\, Aaron J. Kernis\, Peter Mennin\, and Vincent Persichetti on the Albany Records label.  He has also conducted  the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic in three acclaimed recordings on Naxos. A native of Los Angeles\, David Alan Miller holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California\, Berkeley and a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from The Juilliard School. Prior to his appointment in Albany\, Mr. Miller was associate conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. From 1982 to 1988\, he was music director of the New York Youth Symphony\, earning considerable acclaim for his work with that ensemble. Mr. Miller lives in Slingerlands\, New York\, a rural suburb of Albany.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaroga Arts Collective is a non-profit charitable and educational organization. SUMMARY:Seven Wonders
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 11th\, 20267:00pmSherman’s Park\, Pavilion Stage \n\n\n\n\nA tribute to Fleetwood Mac\, with rock power trio Super 400 kicking off the night \n\n\n\nConcert Sponsor: ADK Realty \n\n\n\nTickets*:$15 General Admission – On sale April 16\, 2026*The July 11th concert will be included as part of the Season Passes\, which will be available for sale starting April 16. \n\n\n\nFree general admission for students 17 and under!Caroga Arts offers FREE admission to concert goers 17 and under for all Caroga Arts presented concerts at Sherman’s. \n\n\n\n \n \n Get Tickets!\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Seven Wonders are world-class musicians paying homage to the music of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks. Named after the Fleetwood Mac song “Seven Wonders”\, the band’s collective performing experience brings the crowd powerful renditions of these timeless tunes. They authentically recreate all the great hits of Fleetwood Mac\, including Dreams\, Go Your Own Way\, Rhiannon\, Edge of Seventeen\, Landslide\, Gypsy\, and more. The Seven Wonders’ onstage passion reconnects fans with the music they love. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn a Troy warehouse in 1996\, three musicians plugged in and changed the weather of their small corner of New York. Super 400 is the meeting of three distinct forces: Joe Daley on drums\, Kenny Hohman on guitar and voice\, and Lori Friday on electric bass and keyboards. From the beginning\, they carried the spirit of the 60s and 70s—heavy\, soulful\, and loud—yet bent it toward the present with sharp hooks and a melodic sense all their own. Their name spread from room to room\, tape to tape. Early tours across the U.S. and overseas sparked a trail of bootlegs\, passed hand to hand until they circled the globe. By their most recent European run\, the myth had caught up with them: more than twenty shows sold out\, strangers singing along as if they’d grown up with the band. At home\, Troy claimed them as its own. In 2006\, Mayor Harry Tutunjian marked the bond in writing\, declaring February 25 “Super 400 Day in Troy\,” ten years after that first warehouse jam. In 2024\, Mayor Carmen Mantello added a second honor\, naming January 19 another ‘Super 400 Day’ and confirming what the city already felt—that this band was part of its story. In 2022\, the band was honored to be inducted into the Capital Region Eddies Music Hall of Fame\, and honored as Pop/Rock Artist of the Year in 2022 and 2023\, then Rock Artist of the Year in 2025. Yet for Super 400\, the true reward is simpler: three friends in a room\, chasing a new song. Their mission to keep creating is renewed each time they plug in\, driven by their love for one another and for the music that will come. Now\, as February 2026 brings their 30th anniversary\, Super 400 stands in a rare place: still together\, still evolving\, playing and writing at the height of their powers. Their new full-length\, Spirit in the Sound\, gathers three decades of shared experience into some of their strongest songs—melodies seasoned by the road\, arrangements that know exactly when to burn and when to breathe. Super 400 will celebrate 30 years together\, and the release of Spirit in the Sound\, at the majestic Cohoes Music Hall on February 28 – a room that they love\, and the perfect venue to host a rollicking rock and roll show for the hometown crowd. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaroga Arts Collective is a non-profit charitable and educational organization. SUMMARY:Stella Cole
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 25th\, 20267:00 pmSherman’s Park \n\n\n\nTickets:$20 General Admission$40 PavilionVocalist sensation Stella Cole shines at Sherman’s Park in an evening of timeless standards and vintage charm. Her captivating voice brings new life to the American songbook repertoire. \n\n\n\nFree general admission for students 17 and under!Caroga Arts offers FREE admission to concert goers 17 and under for all Caroga Arts presented concerts at Sherman’s. \n\n\n\n \n \n Get Tickets!\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nLooking at the career of Stella Cole — whose third release\, It’s Magic\, is just about to be released by Universal Music — from a distance\, you might perceive a kind of disconnect\, as Marshall McLuhan would say\, between the medium and her message. McLuhan\, who died in 1980\, had never heard of the internet\, YouTube\, streaming music platforms — and neither did the vast majority of songwriters whose work she champions\, like Frank Loesser\, Meredith Willson\, Ray Noble\, Sammy Cahn\, or Jimmy Van Heusen. \n\n\n\nLikewise\, none of the great artists whose legacy she honors\, like Judy Garland\, Frank Sinatra\, Nat “King” Cole\, or Rosemary Clooney\, would know what it meant to “go viral.” As it happens\, this is how Stella Cole first got noticed by the music industry and\, more importantly\, the larger world beyond: by performing her own interpretations of classic American popular standards and using the internet to share them. \n\n\n\nHowever\, a closer look reveals that these iconic artists were no less keen to embrace new media: long-playing recordings\, television\, stereophonic sound — these were all new technologies in the 1940s and ’50s. The idea of bringing classic American songs to new platforms hardly begins with the young Stella\, yet she has accomplished that more resoundingly successfully than virtually any other artist working today. \n\n\n\nStella\, who was born in a small town in Illinois in 1999\, comes naturally to her repertoire — the material chose her just as much as she chose it. “I grew up on old movie musicals\,” she remembers. “When I was two years old\, my parents sat me down in front of the TV and turned on the VHS of The Wizard of Oz. I loved it so much that after that\, I asked them if I could watch it every single day for over a year. I’ve just been obsessed with that movie my whole life\, and because of it\, I started singing before I could even talk.” \n\n\n\nFrom there\, the youngster gradually absorbed the entire canon of classic Hollywood musicals: Singin’ in the Rain\, Meet Me in St. Louis\, Mary Poppins\, The Sound of Music and others. “Those are all my very favorite movies ever. So I just grew up on this music. And I think my parents accidentally sheltered me culturally\, in a way. We watched all these films and we listened to all the soundtrack albums — and occasionally some James Taylor and maybe Norah Jones. And we didn’t have cable TV or anything. So that was kind of it. I thought this was what everybody was listening to\,” she continues. “I didn’t realize anything different until I was in high school.” She enrolled at Northwestern University — not formally studying music or singing\, but taking on a double major of theater and international relations. \n\n\n\nAs an artist\, Stella found a way of thriving — and launching a musical career — at a moment when most performers were struggling. At the height of the pandemic\, in 2020 and 2021\, she began posting videos of herself singing on YouTube\, TikTok\, and other social platforms. Lots of other singers of all ages were already doing that\, but Stella was virtually the only one to parlay viral video views into a real opportunity. Her performance of “Everybody Says Don’t” (from Stephen Sondheim’s lesser-known Anyone Can Whistle) hit 40\,000 views right out of the gate; James Taylor championed and reposted her video of the beloved standard\, “Moon River.” \n\n\n\nAfter graduation and the end of the lockdown\, she moved to New York\, where her career really went up a notch. She began working live all over the city\, and was soon seen at Birdland\, the Café Carlyle\, and even Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden. In 2023\, she worked with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox\, with whom she toured the entire country\, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Her interpretations of Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl” and Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” added over ten million more views and streams to her list of accomplishments. \n\n\n\nStella went into high gear not long after arriving in New York when she met the veteran\, Grammy-winning producer Matt Pierson. So far\, the team of Stella and Matt have completed two projects\, both released independently. Her first album\, known simply as Stella Cole\, was a mixture of familiar ballads with strings and winds interlaced with a few uptempo numbers and a couple of obscure tunes that amounted to Easter eggs for music buffs\, like Frank Sinatra’s very obscure “Walking in the Sunshine.” Stella Cole also includes one highly original take on a recent work\, Billie Eilish’s “My Future.” Their second offering was a seven-song EP collection of holiday songs titled\, simply\, Snow!\, on which the title song\, from Irving Berlin’s White Christmas\, was a duet with Glee TV and current Broadway star Darren Criss — and a major highlight. \n\n\n\nFor their third collaboration\, Stella and Matt have once again teamed up with the highly accomplished New Zealand-born arranger\, conductor\, composer\, and pianist Alan Broadbent\, one of the great music men of our time. It’s Magic is a more focused work than their previous efforts: it’s all vintage love songs — the newest is the 1966 theme from the classic British comedy Alfie\, set against the backdrop of the most lush and romantic string backdrop imaginable. \n\n\n\nThe vision for It’s Magic was to take on songs that were familiar\, but somewhat unconventional\, including “Stairway to the Stars\,” “My Ideal\,” and “Fools Rush In\,” all of which utilize the more intimate backing of a string quartet\, as opposed to the full 24-part string orchestra. The package varies from classic show tunes\, like “Till There Was You” from The Music Man\, to iconic film themes\, like “As Time Goes By\,” a Stella favorite from Casablanca\, Doris Day’s 1948 hit “It’s Magic” from Romance on the High Seas\, and Burt Bacharach’s main title theme from Alfie (1966). Above all\, there are jazz and songbook standards\, like “Say It” and “The Touch of Your Lips.” \n\n\n\n“When I was younger\, I always thought of performing — singing or acting — as kind of an ego-driven\, self-centered kind of career\,” says Stella\, “that people who did it were all totally focused on themselves.” But\, she reports\, “During the lockdown\, thousands of people were sending me messages saying\, ‘You don’t know how much you’ve helped me\,’ and ‘your music is the one thing cheering me up right now.’ And so I was sort of shocked by that because I hadn’t realized that music had that kind of power to help people. It’s amazing to think that my music can be a bit of a salve or a balm for people’s stress and anxiety. Don’t forget\, these songs and this music helped people get through the Great Depression and World War II.” She concludes\, “That’s the most gratifying thing of all\, experiencing how this music can actually help people.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaroga Arts Collective is a non-profit charitable and educational organization.
