Caroga Arts Bulletin #2 – Film and Visual Art Debut at Caroga Arts

The “MyHil” Film Series and the InterArts Symposium

As we mark the third full season of the Caroga Arts Collective, we have expanded our events to include film, visual art, poetry and photography through our newest program, the MyHil Film Series in addition to our second InterArts Symposium.

The MyHil Film Series derives from the history of the recently donated 10.5-acre MyHil estate, former home to the Schine family, known for their key role in the development of the American cinema experience. The Schine family and Hildegarde Schine, after whom MyHil is named, owned movie theaters across the country and as well as in the Caroga Lake area. They often premiered films in private showings at their estate for guests, including Elvis Presley, Irving Berlin and others.

This year features three films in several venues, all different in genre and all free to attend.

The InterArts Symposium serves as a collaborative and experimental platform for artists to engage with fellow participants in discussions surrounding arts connections to the community while preparing a final showcase, which combines their interests and helps shape their experience for the week.

The MyHil land, donated by Bruce and Richard Veghte, will allow the Caroga Arts Collective to proceed with the first phase of fulfilling its stated mission of having a positive economic and an inspiring artistic impact on Caroga Lake and in the Southern Adirondack region. Caroga Arts’ vision for this project is to create a year-round interdisciplinary artist community which will ultimately become the future home for Caroga Lake Music Festival.
