Jebat Kee is about to begin a Graduate Performance Diploma in Orchestral Conducting at the Peabody Conservatory, as a student of Marin Alsop. This coming season, he will be Assistant Conductor to the Choruses and Orchestras at Peabody. Jebat recently completed his Master’s at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he was Music Director and Conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra. He was also recently recognized as a semifinalist at the Makris International Conducting Competition. Jebat has conducted the UI Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, Illinois Modern Ensemble, Ossia New Music Ensemble and the Empire Film Music Ensemble. He has served as Assistant Conductor of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Lyric Theater, Millikin Opera Theatre, and Campanile Orchestra.
As a violist, Jebat has performed with ensembles such as the Malaysian Philharmonic, Charleston Symphony, and KINETIC. An avid chamber musician, Jebat has collaborated with artists such as Jon Kimura Parker, Mikhail Kopelman, and Kathleen Winkler. Summer festival appearances include Tanglewood, Schleswig-Holstein, Pacific, Spoleto, and Aspen.
Jebat’s conducting teachers include Donald Schleicher, Larry Rachleff and Brad Lubman. He has participated in master classes with Osmo Vanska, Nicolas Pasquet, Mark Gibson and Tito Munoz. Jebat holds degrees in viola from Rice University and the Eastman School of Music. His viola teachers include James Dunham and Carol Rodland.
