Honoring the Past While Building What’s Next
For over a century, Sherman’s has been part of this community. Families have celebrated birthdays under the trees. Grandparents have taken grandchildren on rides they rode themselves. Musicians have found audiences unlike any other. The memories stack up, season after season.
People love this place, and we want to make sure that love still has somewhere to go. That means protecting what made Sherman’s matter in the first place: the gathering, the joy, and the sense that it belongs to everyone who shows up.
Sherman’s Park holds a history rich with community and music, and now that history is shaping what will bring people here, and what will keep them coming back.
The historic Carousel and Ferris wheel are still here, and we’re caring for them so they can carry this community’s memories forward. The Ferris wheel, one of Sherman’s best-known landmarks, is being restored so future generations can ride it the way it once ran. We’re excited for the Ferris Wheel to rejoin the skyline of Sherman’s Park in Spring 2027.
Sherman’s also has a new chapter ahead. The lakeside amphitheater will give artists and audiences a permanent outdoor home. A covered, glass-backed Stagehouse keeps the lake in view, professional audio, visual, and theatrical systems, backstage facilities, and open-air seating will make it a world-class venue unlike anything else in the Adirondacks. This first step of the full amphitheater is expected to open Summer 2027.
Just up the road, the Artist Lodge at Myhil will welcome musicians from around the world, giving them a space for creativity beyond the stage. They can rehearse and collaborate, mentor young players, and make Caroga Lake home throughout the year. The Artist Lodge is expected to open in Spring 2027 and will include eight artist residences, a state-of-the-art kitchen, and gathering areas for artists, students, and the community.

$5.2 Million From NYSCA to Build the Amphitheater
Caroga Arts has been awarded $5.2 million from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to build the new amphitheater at Sherman’s Park. It is the largest 2026 NYSCA grant awarded north of the Bronx.
“This grant is the realization of something we have been working toward for a very long time. The enhanced sound, lighting, and visuals will give audiences and artists a world-class experience, and the new seating and audience wing will bring the full amphitheater to life. We are profoundly grateful to NYSCA and Governor Hochul for recognizing what the arts mean to this region, and for helping us build something that will serve the Southern Adirondacks for generations.”
Kyle Barrett Price, Founder, Executive & Artistic Director, Caroga Arts Collective
These projects aren’t separate investments, they’re one vision. A vision where Sherman’s Park becomes more than a summer destination, it becomes a year-round cultural campus that preserves everything people love while creating opportunities that never existed before.
Community support is still essential to realize the full master plan for the Caroga Arts campus. As progress becomes visible, we invite you to be part of the story and make a gift to support the Reimagining Campaign.
