A Wisconsin native, Dr. Matthew Onstad is Associate Professor of Trumpet at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where he teaches trumpet, coaches chamber music, and performs with the Whitewater Brass Quintet. He is a member of the internationally renowned Meridian Arts Ensemble and joined the Madison Symphony Orchestra in 2025. Praised for his open sound and musicality, he appears as a soloist across the country and advocates for new and underrepresented composers. His album In Memoriam features premiere works for trumpet and piano. Onstad performs regularly throughout the Midwest and is a Yamaha Performing Artist. He resides in Middleton, WI with his wife Beth and their two boys, Elliot and Benji.
