Jonathan Borden has been a member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s double bass section since January 2014. Mr. Borden attended the Juilliard School as a scholarship student of Albert Laszlo, graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2014 while simultaneously beginning his work with the BPO. While at Juilliard he performed with various ensembles including the Juilliard Orchestra as principal bass, the New Juilliard Ensemble and the Juilliard Chamber Orchestra. He spent many summers performing with other prestigious ensembles such as the Tanglewood Music Center orchestra, the Aspen Chamber Symphony and the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra based in Sapporo, Japan. Since he began performing with the BPO, Mr. Borden has expanded his passion for music education by joining the orchestra’s education committee, where he regularly meets with other music education advocates in the greater Buffalo area to expand the orchestra’s education efforts. He teaches a private studio and has also presented master classes at SUNY Fredonia and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Outside of playing the double bass, Mr. Borden pursues many other interests including table tennis, creating websites, and cooking.
