Yu-Ting Wu is a violinist from the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area. Born in Taichung, Taiwan,
she moved with her family to Maryland at the age of four and began studying violin with her
father. She has performed regularly in orchestras since the age of ten, and in 2008 received
full-scholarship to attend Towson University in Maryland.
Working closely with student composers at Towson University, Yu-Ting developed an interest in
performing new music. A colleague, Domenic Turchi, dedicated his Sonatina for Violin and
Piano to her and it was premiered in the fall of 2011. The premiere received a positive review
from Baltimore Sun’s Tim Smith.
The last two years of undergraduate was when Yu-Ting stepped outside of classical music–
performing with the likes of Crack the Sky, Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra, and American Frame
Drum Association. Though her musical journey did not end here.
In the fall of 2012, Yu-Ting attended California Institute of the Arts to pursue her Master of
Fine Arts Degree in violin performance. She was actively involved in baroque and new music
ensembles, industrial rock bands, free improvisation and jazz, folk and indie bands, as well as
traditional African and Balinese dances.
Well-versed in all styles of music, Yu-Ting’s playing has been described as “absolutely
sensational…egoless, and subtle.” Her musical sensibility plays to the strengths of other artists
such as Deadmau5, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Bolton, Circa Survive, and Camila, as
well as her own artistic endeavors.
Yu-Ting is currently bi-coastal between Los Angeles and New York and can be found recording
and performing in all major venues and studios in both cities.
