Dr. Emily Schaefer is Associate Professor of Horn and Ear Training at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. She is a member of Calypsus Brass, a quintet dedicated to playing new music by underrepresented composers. She performs regularly with North Carolina Opera, Carolina Ballet, Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, and also is a substitute musician with North Carolina Symphony.

In 2018, she was appointed to fourth horn with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra for the 2018-19 season before moving to North Carolina. She has performed with Omaha Symphony, Topeka Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, and Charlotte Symphony.

She received her DMA at the University of Missouri, Kansas City and was a member Plaza Winds and holds degrees in horn performance from The Juilliard School (MM) and Cleveland Institute of Music (BM).
