About the Artists
If you like Alanis Morissette, Brandi Carlisle, and crying in public, youโre going to love Girl Blue. Writing deeply emotional songs with strong singable hooks, singer/songwriter/producer Arielle OโKeefe is absolutely one to watch. Sheโs been featured on top Spotify playlists (New Music Friday) and charts (#2 on US Viral Charts), in national commercials, and on top blogs like the Huffington Post. Itโs been said โsheโฆhas the kind of spark that makes starsโ (The Alt), and most especially as a live performer she has an authenticity that regularly moves audience members to tears. She has based herself in Troy, NY, where she writes and records music with recording collective โJust Pretendโ.

Formed in early 2011ย by original members Zack Hay (Guitar & Vocals), Colin Hunt (Bass), and Mark Retajczyk (Guitar & Vocals), The North & South Dakotas set out crafting a sound that paid homage to the spirit of old time american music, mountain folk, and singer-songwriter traditions. ย Though theย band spent many years as a five-piece with drummer Mike Graves, and the past two years as a more traditional bluegrass quartet with utility man Nayt Patenaude (Dobro, Banjo, Mandolin),ย the Dakotasย continueย on asย an ever-rotating cast of string players from the Upstate NY region. ย In this more intimate setting, the band continues to write original, genre-sweeping music that makes use of their trademark vocal harmonies and the musical sensibilities of each band member’s different background.
Frequent celebrity appearances featuringย members of Brain Medicine, Rambler’s Home, ย Let’s Be Leonard, and The Saratoga Strings Band.
You can find The Dakotasย on 102.7 WEQX (The Real Alternative) and 97.7 WEXT (The Exit), and ย supportingย such touring actsย as:
The Gibson Brothers, Jeff Austin, Travelin’ McCourys, Twiddle, Cabinet, Deer Tick, Ryan Montbleau, Waylon Speed, Floodwood, Dangermuffin, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Driftwood, Donna The Buffalo, and The Mallett Brothers Band.
