Mark Stein, originally from Coral Springs, Florida, recently
completed his first year at the Shepherd School of Music at
Rice University, where he studies with Houston Symphony
Assistant Principal Timpanist, Matthew Strauss. He
previously attended the Cleveland Institute of Music, New
England Conservatory, and Boston University.
In 2012, Mark was the recipient of the Percussive Arts
Society’s Cloyd Duff Scholarship, and accepted his award
at the annual Percussive Arts Society International
Convention in Austin, TX.
Mark has performed with numerous orchestras and music
festivals around the country, including the Houston
Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, New World Symphony,
and the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra.
Mark is an avid baseball fan, and closely follows it in his
spare time.
