Winter 2025 S.P.A.C.E. In-School Offerings

Discover the benefits of learning music by playing a string instrument of your choice and studying with Caroga Arts Collective Associated Faculty and Guest Resident Artists. Students will receive weekly individual and group lessons on their instrument of focus, developing their musical and technical skills. Students will also participate in a variety of workshops focused on topics such as music theory and history from a mix of genres and musical styles. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate with peers from the other partnering school districts in Caroga Arts holiday events including the annual Tree Lighting, CLMF WinterFest, and Spring Residency.

Where is SPACE held? The SPACE Program is offered in partnership with three school districts: Johnstown, Gloversville and Wheelerville. NEW this semester, CarogaArts will be offering PreK-K Violin lessons and PreK-12th grade Cello lessons for students from ANY school district at the Sherman’s House in Caroga Lake. Read more below.

Tuition: The 2025 winter program is 12 weeks long including a final showcase concert. Students grades 5-12 may choose to participate in 6-week half sessions or the 12-week full session. Tuition includes instrument rental, workshops, individual and group lessons with nationally acclaimed associated faculty and guest artists, concluding with a showcase concert.

6 weeks Part 1 for 5th-12th Graders Only $120.00

6 weeks Part 2 for 5th-12th Graders Only $120.00

12 weeks Program – 5th-12th graders $240.00

*NEW STUDENTS (grades Pre-K thru 4) will start on a cardboard “build your own” violin for the first 4 lessons. On week 5, they will transfer to the real wooden instrument. **RETURNING STUDENTS will be on the real wooden instrument for the entire program.

Parent Orientation for “Part 2” new parents will take place on March 22, 2:00-3:00PM.

Dates below are listed by the week starting on Mondays as a reference. See specific program dates under your school.

PARENT ORIENTATION on SATURDAY, January 18, 2:00-3:00PM: New this semester, we will be offering a parent orientation at the CarogaArts Sherman’s House (2064 State Highway 10, Caroga Lake, NY 12032). Parents can also attend via ZOOM (Stephanie will be emailing the ZOOM link to all parents). We will review the program structure, instrument care, student expectations, and more. This is a great time to come with questions and meet other SPACE parents. This meeting will be recorded and will be available to parents for a limited time.

Monday Transportation: Busing is not provided on the first Monday of each month due to PD days, please make sure you coordinate a pickup on Feb 3, March 3, and April 7)

Pleasant Ave Elementary

1st grade, Violin Only Fridays: Jan 24-May 2 (We will not meet on Feb 14, Feb 21, and April 18)

Students will be assigned to either 1:10-1:40pm or 1:40-2:10pm, all depending on class schedule New students will begin with the “intro string program” via build and keep your own cardboard instruments. Returning students will be on their wooden instrument all semester. Tuition: 12 weeks Program for 1st graders $180.00 Scholarships are available! Apply within registration form.

Warren Street Elementary

2nd-4th graders, Violin Only 2:15 – 3:15pm on Thursdays: Jan 30-May 1 (We will not meet on Feb 20, and April 17)

Knox Middle School

5th-7th graders Thursdays AT Knox Middle School from 3:00-4:00PM OR Fridays AT JHS from 2:45-3:45 PM with transportation provided from Knox to JHS (read below)
Instruments: Violin, Viola, Bass or Guitar
Transportation: The Greater Johnstown School District Staff will arrange transportation for Knox students to take the “sports shuttle bus” after school from the middle school to the high school on FRIDAYS. Knox students who attend the Thursday session should contact the Knox office to coordinate after school transportation for Thursdays. The FRIDAY shuttle bus generally arrives to JHS by 2:40 PM.
Individual and group lessons/workshops will be scheduled between 2:45-3:45 PM with dismissal between 3:45-4:00 PM**. **Some workshops will stretch all the way to 4:00 PM.

Jr./Sr. High School

8th-12th graders Fridays, 2:00-3:00PM OR 2:15-3:15PM Students will be assigned to one session block.
Instruments: Violin, Viola, Bass, or Guitar
If students have early release or a study hall for their last class period, and are approved by their homeroom teacher, they can start their individual lesson as early as 2:00 PM.
Sports conflict? We are able to accommodate your sports commitment schedule so you can still study a string instrument and participate in workshops when applicable. Let us know and we will schedule your individual lesson time to accommodate.

Gloversville School District at Boulevard

1st-12th graders. We meet at Boulevard Elementary School
Wednesdays: Jan 22-April 30 (We will not meet Jan 29, Feb 19, and April 16)
Instruments: Violin, Viola, or Guitar 1st-2nd graders on Wednesdays 3:00-3:30PM
3rd-5th graders on Wednesdays 3:00-4:00PM
6th-8th graders on Wednesdays 3:30-4:30PM
9th-12th graders on Wednesdays 4:00-5:00PM
Transportation will be coordinated through Gloversville School District, please make a note of your transportation needs in your registration form.

Sherman’s House in Caroga Lake

1. MONDAY VIOLIN OFFERINGS FOR PRE-K & K ONLY (open to any students from any school district).
Who: Pre-K & K students only who want to learn the violin
Where: CarogaArts “Sherman’s House”: 2064 State Highway 10, Caroga Lake, NY 12032
When: 4:00-4:30pm, Mondays: January 27-April 28 with a final showcase concert on May 2. (We will not meet on Feb 17 and April 14)
Description: Open to Pre-K and K students ONLY. We will be offering violin group class lessons to Pre-K and K students from 4:00-4:30PM on Mondays: January 13-April 28 with a final showcase concert on May 2. This class is open to any Pre-K or K student from any school district. Instrument rental is included. Students will start on a cardboard violin and will graduate to wooden violins during Week 5 (on February 24).
Tuition: $180.00 (Tuition includes instrument rental if needed)

2. TUESDAY CELLO LESSON OFFERINGS BY GRADE (open to any students from any school district).
Who: PreK-12th grade students who want to learn the cello only
